"I'll give Sid hell" - Pearce vow as he meets century man Razak

STEVEN Pearce is determined Sid Razak won’t celebrate his century in style this Friday.

The unbeaten Stourbridge light-welterweight will be looking to pick up fourth win when he meets Razak at Wolverhampton Civic Hall on Friday — in what will be his opponent’s 100th professsional bout.

He has won only eight of those fights but Pearce knows the popular Brummie is a much tougher test than his record suggests and is predicting a mini-classic.

He said: “Sid has got a similar style to me, he is not scared to have a scrap.

“I know he will be fired up and coming to win his 100th fight and I think it’s going to be a superb slugfest.

“He is a very good fighter and his record doesn’t do him justice.

“If he was a home fighter he would have a 50-50 record but he never gets the decisions on the road.

“There is no way I can take him for granted but it’s the test I wanted.

“If I get the win and look good in doing so it will have been a pretty decent first season.”

Pearce is pleased with the progress he has made since turning pro, with wins over Bheki Moyo, Matt Seawright and Liam Griffiths.

He added: “Everything is going so well. I missed one fight through illness but otherwise this will be my fourth fight and that’s a pretty good number for the season.

“I’m enjoying it in the pro ranks, I feel I’ve calmed down a bit and have got sharper.

“We have been working in the gym on speed and movement as that’s what will be needed to beat Sid.”

The Civic show will also see the debuts of Pearce’s two new training partners at Brierley Hill’s Coops Boxing Camp.

Andrew Robinson and Ricky Summers starred in the amateurs while at Lions Boxing Club, sharing six Midlands ABA titles with Summers reaching the semi-finals of the seniors and Robinson twice appearing at the same stage of the novices.

Middleweight Robinson faces Walsall’s Bobby Wood, while light-heavyweight Summers will take on Scunthorpe’s Jody Meikle.

The show will be broadcast live on the website of Ricky Hatton’s promotional company.
