Harris secures second win of year

HALESOWEN Cycling Club’s Dan Harris scored his second win of the year at the Stourport Circuit Race.

Harris, a first category rider, rode a perfect tactical race as he managed to keep the field together and chased down any lone attacks before using his sprint finish to take victory at the end.

The club’s road racing team are set for a busy week as they take part in the Ras Du Cymru stage race in Wales, which started yesterday.

A four-man team of Tom Gregory, Matt Clarke, Jack Mills and Callum Ferguson have entered what is considered a very tough race, with six hilly stages, a prologue time trial and a team time trial.

The latter is an unusual discipline but Halesowen road racing boss Dave Viner says they have been practicing.

He said: “The team time trial is a stage I’m hoping we will win. We’ve not been helped in our preparation by the weather and we would like to have done more practice on the road.

“But they have been out on the track a couple of times behind the derney bike and they are all talented riders.”

Ferguson headed into the event off the back of an excellent weekend of racing in Belgium, where he finished third and 19th over two events.

The third place came in the Championship of Flanders, which included some of the best young riders in Belgium.

Viner added: “That’s a really good ride from Callum because racing in Belgium is by no means easy.”
