Great Britain’s Non Stanford achieved her first World Triathlon Series podium finish for two years – coming third in Yokohama, Japan.

Stanford, who came eighth in the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, held off the challenge from Australian Ashleigh Gentle who tried to run her way into podium contention but fell short by 22 seconds.

Flora Duffy for Bermuda took the gold medal in 1:53:25, leading the pack after the swim, going under an hour for the 40km cycle and completing the 10km run in 33:26, with Katie Zaferes coming in 33 seconds behind and Stanford a further 43 seconds back.

The win sees Duffy move to the top of the World Triathlon Series standings, replacing American Kirsten Kasper who withdrew following a bike crash.

Rachel Klamer, second in the standings going into the race, also withdrew part way through the race.

Britain’s Jodie Stimpson crossed the line in 12th place, just under three minutes behind Duffy.
