Callum McGregor spoke of a “relentless” Celtic after helping the Hoops to history with the opening goal in the 2-0 William Hill Scottish Cup final win over Motherwell at Hampden Park.

McGregor fired Celtic ahead in the 11th minute and Olivier Ntcham doubled that lead after 25 minutes, with Brendan Rodgers’ side dominating mostly until the final whistle confirmed a second successive domestic treble.

The historic victory made it eight wins out of eight at the national stadium for Rodgers since taking over the club in 2016.

That sequence is part of Celtic’s current dominance, underpinned by seven successive Ladbrokes Premiership titles, and the desire for success bodes well for Celtic next season, according to McGregor.

The 24-year-old told Press Association Sport: “We just seem to keep breaking records, this group of players and manager and staff, it just seems to be relentless and it is hard to say it is going to stop if everyone has that same hunger when we go away and come back.

“I am 100 per cent the manager will, that’s the way works, he demands the very best from you.

“When we come back he will put that demand on us again; ‘let’s go and do it again, be better in the league’.

“He wants to work with hungry players and this group of players are hungry.”

McGregor was “buzzing” to have scored another fine Hampden goal, having notched there most recently in the 4-0 semi-final win over Rangers.

The former Celtic youth player said: “It has been a great place to come recently for me. You get that confidence to score big goals.

“You know when you walk on the pitch you know you can do it.

“It is probably instinct, football brain.

“It is probably better when you don’t have time to think about it, just touch and hit it and it flies into the back of the net.

“It is hard to put into words. It will probably sink in, in a few weeks.

“I am just honoured and proud to be part of it and in the bigger picture, to be in that bracket of players who have made history for the club.

“It is a special group of guys, they deserve it, the fans deserve it and for us to give them that is something special.”
