DK's revival arrives far too late
10:52am Thursday 26th September 2013 in Dudley Kingswinford RFC
DUDLEY Kingswinford never got going in their National League Two North game against Otley until it was far too late!.
In fact DK never even got on the scoreboard until the 55th minute, by which stage they trailed Otley 29-0.
The final scoreline of 36-19 suggested what might have been and team boss Mark Holloway admitted: “It was a shame we had to wait until we were 29-0 down before we started playing.
“Otley had a back row player called Daniel Temm who ran the game and we had difficulty in dealing with him.
“It didn’t help matters that we lost our number eight Jon Tideswell with a toe injury early on. “He’s a big player for us and we might have coped with Temm a bit better had we not lost Jon so early.
“We started quite well, but it was the usual thing of not turning possession into points.
“That said, they were better than us in the first-half and when we went 29-0 down, heads could have dropped quite easily, but I was delighted with the resilience we showed to get back in the game”.
Temm went onto score a hat-trick of tries after Chris Gemmell had first breached the DK line while James Wood adding his name to the try-tally as well before half time.
DKs cause wasn’t helped during this period when highly-rated scrum-half Jordan Brookes received a yellow card when 22-0 down after conceding a penalty in the ruck.
It was Gareth Bown who began the fightback, forcing his way over for a try which he converted himself.
Temm then completed his hat-trick before DK’s winger Liam Marshall finished off an excellent handling move for an unconverted try.
Replacement James Ramsey then made his presence felt, forcing his way over in the corner for Bown to add the extra points with an excellent kick.
DK entertain Luctonians this Saturday at Heathbrook and will hope there is a lucky omen in the fixture — as DK chalked up their only away victory at Luctonians last season.
Player-coach Pete Knight returns to the back row after being absent from Otley while on wedding duty.
