DK's detached at the bottom after relegation scrap

DUDLEY Kingswinford remained detached at the bottom of SSE National League Division Two North after suffering a slender 18-15 defeat against second from bottom Sheffield Tigers.

Hopes were high that DK's could register their first success of the season following an encouraging show at Preston the previous week.

But after leading on the hour mark, the DK's were eventually undone by a second yellow card as Sheffield made the most of their one man advantage to steal the ball from a scrummage and snatch what proved a match-winning try.

The match was riddled with many errors but DK's will feel this was a match that got away from them.

Keiron Pinches missed an early shot at goal as DK's applied early pressure before Tom Outram kicked Sheffield into a 3-0 lead after DK's were caught offside at a ruck.

Pinches levelled matters with a penalty but DK's didn't help their cause when they had Gareth Bown yellow carded.

Despite having their ranks reduced, the DK's played the better rugby and took the lead, Ashley Oyekan making the break before offloading to Ben Brown who in turn sent Ryan Smitherman storming over to score wide out.

Outram then reduced the lead to 8-6 at half time with a second Sheffield penalty.

Sheffield went in front following a five metre scrum where they worked the ball out on the blindside for Rupert Broadly to score.

The DK's came storming back on 58 minutes when Oyekan gathered up a poor pass and burst through Sheffield's defence to score by the posts for Pinches to convert.

DK's were then dealt another blow when Matt Squires was sin binned for not releasing on 61 minutes.

Three minutes later Sheffield scored the all important try when the ball squirted out of a scrum for flanker David Bradford to cross unopposed and Pinches converted.

The DK's a tough trip to title chasers Sedgley Park this Saturday.
