Things can't get any worse - claims Holloway

DEFIANT Dudley Kingswinford team manager Mark Holloway admitted matters couldn't get any worse after his side was smashed 111-15 by Sedgley Park this week.

The DK's struggled for a side after being hit by injuries and unavailabilities with Holloway having to reveal: "There were some players involved who wouldn't have been first choice - we had two players making their first XV debuts.

"We still played with tremendous heart and spirit, but in truth, we were just outclassed.

"As a club, we're trying to do everything that we can within the restraints that we have.

"We are basically an amateur side competing at a professional level and as a result, we have very limited resources, so it becomes difficult to attract players at this level.

"Coaches Shaun Perry and Pete Knight are doing their best, but they can only work with what is available to them.

"But one thing is for certain - we will never give up!

Consequently an inexperienced DK's side were always going to face a daunting task in North Yorkshire, especially as hosts Sedgley Park had put 90 points past Bromsgrove in their previous home game.

It wasn't long before DK's worst fears were realised as Sedgley Park promptly ran in 17 tries - a total which will have National League officials thumbing through their record books.

The DK's were 45-5 down by the interval, Sam Pedley providing the DK's solitary score.

Matt Lamprey led Sedgley Park's onslaught by scoring four tries, as did Andy Riley, while brother Matt added two more.

Chris Wilkinson also crossed three times for the Park while Chris Parrot, Johnny Matthews, Rob Holloway and Jonny Lamprey added their names to the scoresheet.

Steve Collins kicked 13 conversions to complete DK's misery, who managed to respond with a couple of tries of their own through Danny Hawkins and Ryan Smitherman.

DK's have the task of regrouping ahead of this Saturday's home contest with Chester with Holloway adding: "The spirit within the team is still good, there's been no falling out and we remain resolute together".
