JON Higgins has warned the Dudley Kingswinford faithful not to expect too many fireworks this Saturday.

DK return to Heathbrook for the first time since their record-breaking 137-0 win over Manchester when they host National Three Midlands strugglers Old Northamptonians this Saturday (kick-off 2.15pm).

The visitors are just one place off the bottom of the table but joint head coach Higgins says fans should expect a much closer game than the one they saw against Manchester last month.

He said: “After the Manchester game people will be expecting a lot of points but we have to manage expectations.

“I remember playing at Northamptonians earlier in the season and being really surprised at their league position.

“They were a much better side than the table suggests and gave us a really tough time.

“Obviously if we play like we have been in recent weeks we will win but we have to be on our game from the start.”

Higgins was impressed by the clinical edge displayed by his team in last weekend’s 44-23 win at Mansfield, a result which keeps DK second in the table and in pole position to snare a promotion play-off place.

Despite having to defend for large portions of the game, DK made the most of every attacking opportunity to ensure a shock was never on the cards. Duncan Chance and James Jefferson both scored braces.

Higgins added: “We were expecting it to be tough and it certainly was.

“But we played well and competed well and every time we got the chance to score we did.

“It was pretty clear from the outset they were going to try and keep it tight and we had to defend for long periods.

“I think we only had three attacks in the first-half and we scored on each.

“Everybody played really well and was fully committed.”

Higgins and fellow head coach Pete Knight have no fresh injury concerns ahead of this weekend’s game.
