Hales cannot afford to lose in South Leicester
12:39pm Thursday 20th February 2014 in Old Halesonians
OLD Halesonians head for South Leicester this week for a game they must win to maintain their drive for promotion from National League 3 Midlands.
Having missed out on playing for the past fortnight, Hales still remain third in the table, but are 10 points adrift of second-placed Nuneaton with a game in hand.
Spokesman John Clark confirmed: “We will probably need to win all our remaining games if we want to stay in the hunt for promotion.
“We were really disappointed to have last week’s game against fourth-placed Sutton Coldfield washed out, but I can report that all the team are really up for the remaining eight games.”
With the First XV sidelined, attention turned to the Seconds, who faced a tough task at Birmingham Medics, a side who have yet to be beaten this season.
The Medics went on to dominate first-half exchanges, building a 17-0 lead by half-time thanks to an unconverted try and four penalties.
Hales staged a storming recovery in the second half and clawed the score back to 20-19 at one stage thanks to a trio of tries from Tom Dempsey, Andy Tromans and Sam Jones, while Tom Harris converted twice.
In a somewhat frantic finish where both sides created plenty of errors from attacking moves, the Medics managed to make the most of some clean ball to secure a converted try.
