NEIL Mitchell says title-chasing Stourbridge RFC must “box clever” at struggling Westoe this Saturday.

The Saxons travel to the north east looking for another bonus point win as they bid to keep the pressure on National Two North rivals Hull Ionians.

But the hosts are also desperate for victory and know defeat, coupled with a win for Dudley Kingswinford, would see them relegated. Stour thumped Westoe 52-5 at Stourton Park earlier this season and director of rugby Mitchell feels a similar high-tempo performance will be required.

He said: “I’ve watched the video of the home game again and they simply couldn’t live with us, we were relentless “When you are fighting for your life, as they are, it can get tough when you can’t find any reward and you get desperate.

“In many ways we’ve got to box clever and be smart tactically in the way we play it.

“They beat Caldy at home the other week and put 24 points on Otley so they are clearly battling.

“We have to go up there and make sure we stick to the script.”

While the title’s destiny remains in Hull’s hands, the Humberside outfit have no more room for error after failing to pick up a bonus point in a 17-11 win at Leicester Lions.

It means Stour, who have just two games to play and beat Preston Grasshoppers 33-22 last weekend, will win the title if they pick up bonus points wins in both and Hull drop any points in their final three games.

Mitchell believes there are still twists and turns to come.

He said: “It’s still very much in the air. If we can get 10 points from the last two games I still think we stand a very good chance but there are a number of permutations, both of us could still slip up.”

Stour could be without Caolan Ryan for the trip to Westoe as the fly-half may be recalled by parent club Moseley.
