WORCESTERSHIRE Rapids will take on their Shropshire counterparts at Shifnal tomorrow evening in a warm-up match for the opening NatWest T20 Blast clash against Durham Jets at New Road next Friday.

The Rapids vice-captain Joe Leach will again go head-to-head with brother Steve Leach who skippers Shropshire.

Joe took the new ball in the first class fixture with Oxford MCCU in The Parks last month and dismissed Steve in the second innings.

Former New Road opener Richard Oliver will be playing for Shropshire while the Worcestershire quartet of Joe Leach, Joe Clarke, Ed Barnard and Jack Shantry are all ex Shropshire players.

Last year the two counties met at Bridgnorth and in previous years Shrewsbury and Wellington has been the venue.

Steve Leach said: “It’s a great opportunity for our players to showcase their skills, particularly those who want to go further in the game.

“It’s nice for Shropshire cricket to have Worcestershire visiting and there will be a lot of excitement about it."

As for his dismissal by brother Joe at Oxford, Steve said: “He had me caught at first slip but we’re just two cricketers on the pitch at the end of the day.

“I saw Joe getting Alastair Cook, the England Test captain, out on TV this week, so I don’t feel so bad about him getting me out earlier in the season now!

“Richie Oliver has just come out of the Worcestershire team having been one of their opening batsman, so we’ve got a lot to showcase ourselves. It’s just a matter of being fearless and trying to put on a good show.”

The admission prices at Shifnal will be £5 (adults) £2 (Under-16s) and the start time is 5pm.
