INTERNATIONAL cricket will be staged in Worcester tomorrow with England women set to go into battle with Pakistan at New Road (10.30am).

Up to 2,000 people are expected to turn out and roar England on to a second successive victory in their six-match series.

Eighty-two children from Malvern’s Wyche Primary School are due to do a guard of honour for the team, while pupils from Worcester’s Stanley Road Primary School will also be in attendance for the Royal London One-Day International.

England are entering a new era under captain Heather Knight, who replaced stalwart Charlotte Edwards, and are in buoyant mood following their seven-wicket win at Leicestershire’s Grace Road today.

The team also feature Yorkshire’s Katherine Brunt, who has worked as a coach with Worcestershire Cricket Board.

It will be the first time the County have hosted England women since last summer when they staged one of their Ashes ODIs.

Knight marked her first game as captain with five wickets and 50 not out to secure the win over Pakistan.

Appointed Edwards’ successor, off-spinner Knight claimed 5-26 to remove the tourists for 165 in 45.4 overs.

Then England opener Tammy Beaumont struck 70, putting on 96 with Knight as England flew home with 18.1 overs left in Leicester.

Natalie Sciver added 27 not out.

Knight was the first player to take five wickets and make a fifty in an ODI.

Brunt (2-24) required just 19 balls to bag her 100th ODI wicket as Pakistan began poorly after England won the toss.

Opener Sidra Ameen top scored for Pakistan with 52.

Knight said: “I had some nerves in the morning — it was a big day for me — but they settled quite quickly.

“I was dreaming of a hundred on debut. Getting a five-for never crossed my mind but it was great to start well.

“When I took the job, I said I wasn’t going to try to be another Charlotte Edwards and I’d do it my own way.”

The final ODI after Worcester will be at Taunton on Monday before the sides play three Twenty20s.
