WORCESTERSHIRE seconds are in local derby action this week when they take on their Warwickshire counterparts in a four-day match at Coventry and North Warwicks from tomorrow.

Coach Kevin Sharp’s side, who are assured of at least third spot in the Second XI Championship, will be looking to bounce back from last week’s setback against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl.

The County are fielding a strong-looking side with young pacemen George Scrimshaw and Pat Brown impressing in Friday’s NatWest T20 Blast match against Derbyshire Falcons.

Opening batsman George Rhodes, all-rounder Alex Hepburn and middle-order batsman Ross Whiteley also featured at the 3aaa County Ground.

It is also a chance for players who could come into contention for the Specsavers County Championship Division Two match with Gloucestershire next Monday at New Road to get invaluable match practice and push their claims for possible selection.

Alex Milton will look to continue the fine form he has been showing with the bat for the seconds and for Cardiff where he completed 1,000 league runs at the weekend.

He was the first player to reach the milestone in a season in the South Wales Premier Cricket League after scoring 79 not out from 134 balls in a losing draw for leaders Cardiff against Newport.

Paceman Charlie Morris will again skipper the seconds.

Worcestershire: Rhodes, Westbury, Fell, Hepburn, Whiteley, Milton, Twohig, Shantry, Brown, Morris, Scrimshaw.
