WORCESTERSHIRE maintained their 100 per cent record in the Second XI Trophy North Group as they defeated MCC Young Cricketers by five wickets.

Coach Alex Gidman’s side restricted the hosts to 207 all out after skipper Ollie Westbury elected to bowl first.

Pat Brown (2-39), Dillon Pennington (2-32), George Rhodes (2-35) and Zen Malik (2-46) all picked up several wickets.

There were also five catches for wicketkeeper Joe Dodd at Merchant Taylor’s School, Northwood.

Then a century stand between Josh Dell (66) and Ryan Tongue (70), brother of first XI bowler Josh and the Birmingham League's player of the year for 2017, helped the County to win with 20 balls to spare.

Rhodes fell to a fifth-ball duck in the reply while fellow opener Westbury scored 28 and Ross Whiteley 13.

Malik (11 not out) and trialist Tommy Sturgess (1no) guided the County home on 208-5 from 46.4 overs.

Victory followed triumphs over Warwickshire at Blackfinch New Road and Derbyshire at Alvaston and Boulton last week.
