A Guided Tour of the Mosaics at the Sacred Heart Church, Droitwich, led by David Holden.

The tour organised by the Historic Droitwich & Dodderhill Research Group will be a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the church which was recently Grade II listed (2013). Inside the brick exterior is a sight to behold, the walls above the lower marble panels are decorated to the ceiling with images telling stories from the Bible and aspects of the history of Droitwich, including that of our saint, St Richard de Wych.

Building of the church by Walter Loveridge Hodgkinson of Rashwood Court as a memorial to his wife started in 1919, and was dedicated in 1921. The mosaic decorations begun in 1921 are based on the World renowned early Christian mosaics of Ravenna, Italy, and took 12 years to complete using 8 ½ ton of ¼ inch glass. Local Solihull artist Gabriel Pippet designed the mosaics, and the mosaicist was Maurice Josey.
