Christmas Craze

The annual German Christmas market opened in Birmingham on November 2nd to December 24th. It takes place in Victoria square and new street, which is accessible for people to visit as it is close to transport links. The Christmas market consists of numbers of stalls selling food, beverages and crafts. This is a hot spot for families, couples and friends to be fuelled to get in the Christmas spirit and enjoy a nice winter day out. Furthermore, in honour of the winter season an ice-skating rink, rides/entertainment and a Ferris wheel have been installed for extra holiday fun!

Why people visit Christmas markets

This fun and festive event contributes to the excitement of Christmas – the twinkling lights, colourful ornaments and Christmas trees are reminders of the importance of the ambience that enhance the Christmas feel. Additionally, the scent of food and uplifting music sets the mood of the vibe that the holiday should be in.

Traditional German food is sold in the Christmas markets such as the Bratwurst and the schnitzel – they are popular within the markets as German foods are rich and symbolise comfort. The bratwurst in the German Christmas market was described as ‘delicious’ by Wuraola Odofin. She stated that when she visited the market, it immediately put her in the holiday mood and is a lovely winter day out for anyone!

The art/crafts sold in stores could be used as gifts for people and encourages people to buy presents for family and friends and overall prepare for the Christmas Craze!
