WRESTLING is making a return to Halesowen but this time a local grappler is set to be bouncing around the ring.

On Sunday seasoned wrestlers from across the world will be performing at Halesowen Members Club but it is also local teenager Andrew Rooke’s debut.

The 19-year-old will be fighting under the name of Andy Hendrix due to his likeness of the 1960s guitar legend Jimi Hendrix.

He said: “I am thrilled that all my hard work and training has paid off and that I will be making my debut as a professional wrestler and what makes it all the more thrilling and overwhelming is that I will be making my debut in Halesowen.

“I am over the moon my debut in my home town, in front of my friends my family, all my loved ones, I am very happy and cannot wait for my first bout.”

Top of the bill is a bout between European champion Red Eagle, a masked high flying wrestler from Portugal, against American Ring of Honour wrestler Cameron Matthews of Florida.

Other stars battling it out include PWL British heavyweight champion Matt “The Hammer” Mentzer, “Butcher” Tom Mason, Jonny Thunder, Joey Syxx and Mad Dog Maxx.

The show on Sunday is at the Halesowen Members Club, Hagley Road, and doors open at 7pm, with the show starting at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £5 each or £17.50 for a family of four, tickets are on sale at the club now and for more information phone 07938 000 598.
