ROMSLEY is set to be alive with the sound of music next weekend when the second Romstock festival gets underway.

The event on Saturday, June 15, will see bands and music fans from across the Midlands descend on the village for what organisers are calling “a mini Glastonbury”.

The first Romstock was held last year as part of the Jubilee celebrations but this year’s festival will see twice as many bands performing at the old sports field on St Kenelms Road.

Mark Moran, Romstock bands co-ordinator, said: “We have pulled out all the stops for this years festival and it promises to be a wonderful day in Romsley.

“This is like the next Glastonbury for Romsley and if the sun shines it will be a perfect environment for the whole family to listen to great music.

“There will be entertainment on the stage from 1pm until around 8pm with bands including 1980s legends Goats’ Don’t Shave, Dizzy Lizzy, Crowded Out, Kidderminster’s Got The T-shirt, Soul Mania and Crazy Horses.”

Romsley’s very own ska outfit Romska Beat will also be performing a set in front of their home crowd and Birmingham punk poet Spoz will be the master of ceremonies.

There will also be traditional fish and chips on offer and a beer tent for the adults to enjoy and the nearby skate park is expected to be full of children.

Mr Moran said: “We are praying there will be no rain but even if there is the show will go on.”

This year the entrance fee will be £5 or £15 for families and all the money raised will go to community projects within Romsley.

Tickets are available at Spar in Romsley or will be available on the gate.
