THE Mayor of Dudley has been given £2,000 for his charities from the organisers of the Great Black Country Road Run in Halesowen.
The mayor, councillor Alan Finch, joined runners on the streets of Halesowen in September along with a number of council staff and councillors.
He said: "“It was a great event and I’ve still got the blisters to prove it. But to see this huge amount of money going to my two charities makes it all worthwhile.
“I am hugely grateful to the Rotary Club of Halesowen and Rowley Regis and everyone who took part in the run for helping to raise this fantastic total."
The Rotary Club of Halesowen and Rowley Regis, which organises the run, added the Mayors’ charities to the official list of worthy causes to benefit from the day, giving the Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and White House Cancer Support an unexpected cash windfall.
Race organiser Alan Bowler said: "We were delighted the mayor took part and both charities are great causes."
