SPEEDING traffic and inconsiderate parking is creating dangers to schoolchildren in Halesowen, it was claimed this week.

Would-be politician Stuart Henley is taking up the issue which has been raised with him by residents.

The UKIP candidate for Halesowen North said there were particular concerns around Olive Hill and Hurst Green primary schools.

He said the roads around Olive Hill were dangerous with people parking on double yellow lines and on junctions.

Mr Henley said speeding traffic in Narrow Lane outside Hurst Green Primary School was also hazardous.

“I witnessed the speeding - also the parking from parents collecting children makes the road a lot narrower causing the speeding traffic to come head on with each other,” he said, adding: “Residents who live local to the schools have expressed their concerns and frustrations with motorists who are endangering their children and grandchildren by the way they abuse the road traffic laws and jeopardise the safety of others.

“Many residents have talked about the way motorists park in dangerous places such as on double yellow lines and also on junctions.

“They are also frustrated by the lack of respect some motorists show by parking across their drives. “ Mr Henley is calling on the police and Dudley Council’s traffic wardens to take action.

He is hoping police will run community speed watch sessions around the schools and that the council will fine those who park in a dangerous and inconsiderate manner.
