PICTURESQUE Romsley and Hunnington Sports Club has been renovated to ensure it will thrive for years to come.

The Bromsgrove Road cricket ground and bowling green was established in 1927 and members have sanctioned five-a-side football pitches to be added this year.

Bernard Williams, chairman of the club, is delighted with refurbishment of the club house.

He said: "Romsley and Hunnington Sports Club can trace its origins back to 1927, but in 2014 we are witnessing a rebirth of our club.

"The club house has been completely refurbished both inside and out into a very pleasant sports club representing both cricket and crown green bowling whether visitors are enjoying watching a game or having a coffee or a drink and a cob.

He added: "The surroundings of the club house in addition to all new furniture also features a Wendy house for the youngest children to play in.

"The next project will be developing a full play area including five-a-side football for the children of our members.

"And the bowling green is now in the best condition ever thanks to the hard work during a very wet and difficult winter by our bowling green groundsman Derrick Lilley."

The future of the club is in good hands with the junior team attracting big numbers of youngsters.

Mr Williams added: "Youth cricket under the direction of Ollie Taylor continues to develop and expand with over 50 juniors training on Wednesday evenings and fielding teams at all ages from under 10 playing soft ball cricket to teams at under 15 level.

"If your child in interested in cricket at any level why not bring them along on a Wednesday and meet the team of coaches."

The club also fields two teams playing in the Worcestershire Cricket League on a Saturday and one team playing Sunday league cricket .

Mr Williams added: "We are always ready to welcome new members who would like to play their Cricket at one of the best equipped and picturesque grounds in the West Midlands then contact me on 07533 871 447."
