A POSTIE made a special delivery to an Old Hill school when he popped in to read them his favourite children’s stories.
Mike Billingham, from the Coombs Wood depot, was one of a range of workers who read to children at Old Hill Primary School, inspiring them to want to read more themselves.
Other professions represented included a vicar, shopping centre manager, nurse and PCSO. Author of the Scream Street series, Tommy Dondavand, also talked to the pupils about his books and American authors took part through Skype sessions.
Assistant headteacher Carl Badger said each year group focused on particular books during reading week, which also included a quiz and the chance for the children to dress up in their favourite fictional characters.
Last year’s reading focus contributed to the school’s record SATS grades and Mr Badger said he hoped last week’s event would lead to more success for the pupils.
