PENSIONERS at a Halesowen drop in club received an extra special Christmas present – a £500 windfall from the police.
The gift brought extra cheer as members of the Queensway Centre club enjoyed their Yuletide festivities.
Police community support officers from the Belle Vale team, who applied for the grant from the Police Community Project Fund, were special guests at the celebrations.
The Salvation Army provided music and carols as around 30 pensioners tucked into festive refreshments.
Volunteer Jill Nicholls said the grant was “great news” and the money will be used to buy a new chiller to keep the cakes fresh.
“It was a lovely celebration and a good time was had by all,” she added.
Mrs Nicholls said new visitors were welcome and more volunteers are needed to help run the centre which is open from 10am until 3pm Mondays to Fridays.
Anyone interested in helping for a few hours should call the centre on 0121 550 0118.
