CONTROVERSIAL plans to build an enterprise zone in Halesowen have been scrapped by Dudley Council.

Councillors decided to throw out proposals to build a huge business park near junction three of the M5.

The enterprise zone could have created 6,000 jobs but the plan has now been shelved.

Councillor Pete Lowe, leader of the council, said: "Although there were no firm plans in place we have already seen growing opposition to even the proposed feasibility exercise and have therefore listened to what people have had to say and acted upon it.

"It means that we are now proposing to continue with the report on a Combined Authority without the very loose proposals for land off junction three of the motorway."
