AN Oldbury telecoms engineer who was hit by a car in Coseley on Monday (20 July) has died from his injuries.
The 27-year-old was working on a communications box at the junction of Jack Holden Avenue and Robert Wynd with a colleague when they were struck by a grey Citroen Picasso just before midday.
The victim– named on social media as Matt Harding – suffered serious head injuries and was airlifted to the major trauma unit at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital in a critical condition and died last night.
His colleague suffered a broken arm and jaw, and a twisted ankle. He was taken to Russells Hall Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
Two boys, aged 16, were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and have been released on police bail.
Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the force’s Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This is a deeply tragic incident and our thoughts are with the family of the deceased.
“Our investigation is under way and I am still appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision and has not spoken to a police officer to get in touch with us on 101.”
