PLANS have been drawn up for a massive increase in the size of a Halesowen primary school, in a bid to cope with rising demand across the borough.

Dudley Council is consulting on proposals to boost capacity available at Newfield Park Primary – taking it from a two to a three form entry.

If agreed the changes would see an additional 210 places available at the school and also the flexibility to include nursery provision at a later date.

Councillor Ian Cooper, cabinet member for children’s services, said: “I’m really pleased that these proposals are now going out to consultation. Newfield Park Primary really is a school at the heart of its community and these plans will be a huge boost to children and their families in the area.

“There is an increasing demand for school places across the borough and this expansion means that more places will be available for children in Halesowen meeting the needs of the local community in the future.”

The consultation was launched yesterday and will run until Wednesday September 30. The consultation document is available at www.dudley.gov.uk/community/consultations/engagement
