THE Friends of Hurst Green Park Group has now become constituted which will open up opportunities for funding.

The group was formed this year to ensure the future of Hurst Green Park and has attracted members from the community.

Charlotte Chamberlain, chairman of the group, is delighted with how quickly progress has been made.

She said: "This means we can apply for funding and move forward with our aim of developing and looking after the local park for everybody.

"The friends group is made up of local residents and we recognise that we are lucky to have such a beautiful space in our community but we would like to see it used more.

"We are keen to improve the park’s potential and open it up to more local residents."

The group is hoping to harvest the memories of park users over the years to ensure it remains at the centre of the community.

Mrs Chamberlain added: "Many of the local residents who grew up in the area recall playing in the park as children and refer to it fondly as ‘the dumps’. As a group we would love to hear more of the memories and meet with locals wishing to support us with the development no matter how big or small the contribution it will be gratefully received.

You can join us on our newly developed Friends of Hurst Green Park Group Facebook page and in person at our next two meetings to be held in the Lounge at Margaret Vine Court, Moat Drive, on March 23 at 6.30pm and June 22 at 6.30pm."

For those wanting to help with the next litter pick, it is being held in the park on Sunday at 10.30am.
