A YOUNG Halesowen mum, who survived a turbulent childhood and a long period of anxiety, has written a book about the mind regime that changed her life.

Melissa McNeil, author of Mindfulness, Meditation and The Law of Attraction, first came across the techniques seven years ago and says she is living proof of the benefits, which she wants to share with others.

The mother-of-two endured a difficult start in life as the daughter of heroin addicts and was taken into care at the age of 12.

But she said it was taking cannabis that caused an extreme panic attack – which lasted six months, even sleep gave her no escape from the anxiety she felt.

Miss McNeil said: “My doctor recommended I go on a course with other anxiety sufferers and there they taught me about your brain in anxiety.”

She came to understand the vicious cycle of anxiety, stemming from negative and paranoid thoughts, and embarked on a journey of self-discovery, learning about mindfulness, meditation and the law of attraction.

The 25-year-old, who lives in Sunbury Road with her partner and children, aged seven and three, said mindfulness was about connecting with yourself and the present moment.

Through meditation, relaxation for the mind and body, she was able to connect more deeply with her inner self.

Miss McNeil said: “The law of attraction is all about reprogramming your mind to attract the life you want to live and focus solely on all the positive aspects of life.”

She added: “My life now is simply amazing I have two beautiful children and such a calm and happy life. I couldn't have imagined I would be here seven years ago.”

With just 45 pages, her book is a straightforward read, with 30 pages devoted to a daily diary, which sufferers can use every day as they practice the techniques.

“The way I see it – I had a horrendous life and if I can do it, anyone can,” she said.

The book is available on Amazon and through her website anew-life.com
