LEGENDARY Halesowen comedian Tommy Mundon is having a biography published about his life.

All the proceeds of the book, which will detail the comedian's life and favourite jokes will go to Mary Stevens Hospice in Stourbridge.

The Black Country Society has collaborated with the author Angela Daniels to produce the book which is being launched tomorrow (Friday).

James Morgan, chairman of the Black Country Society, said: "We were extremely proud, some five years ago, when Tom accepted our invitation to become President of the Black Country Society.

"We are equally proud now to publish the story of his life and a catalogue of his jokes."

He added: "There can be few people in these parts who will not look forward to reading all about, and wallow in fond memories of the Black Country’s greatest comic. I can’t wait."

Author Angela Daniels said: "Having known Tom for over forty years, I knew what an impact he had had on the people of the Black Country. He was the King of Black Country comedy; he had a rare talent and was loved by us all.

"I felt that there should be a fitting and lasting legacy to this man who had brought so much happiness to so many people."

She added: "So I started collecting stories from family members, friends, fans and fellow performers who each had their own special memories of Tom, both on stage and off."

Printing costs for the book have been paid for by Morgan and Company Solicitors and the Black Country Society.

William Morgan, senior partner Morgan Solicitors, said: "Our willingness to sponsor this book demonstrates our recognition of a truly iconic Black Country performer and gentleman.

"It also acknowledges the work of Mary Stevens Hospice which gives such a tremendous service to the local community."

He added: "There was no better Black Country comedian and there is a no more deserving cause."

Mr Mundon died in 2014 after fighting a battle against Parkinson’s disease. Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant attended the funeral, he once said: “The two best things to come out of Halesowen were me and Tommy Mundon.”
