THE influence of the Norman invasion on Cradley will be highlighted in a local history talk in the town, as the nation marks the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings.

Saxon King Harold was defeated by William of Normandy on October 14 1066 and local historian Margaret Bradley will commemorate this momentous event with an illustrated talk on the effects on the community and landscape.

Mrs Bradley said: “Cradley is one of the ancient manors that features in the Domesday Survey.

“The building of a castle at Dudley, stone churches such as St John the Baptist at Halesowen, as well as the creation of a deer park near Colley Gate, contributed to changing the landscape of this area in Norman times.”

The free talk is at Overend Methodist Mission, Banner's Lane, on Thursday October 20 at 7.30pm and all are welcome.
