BLIGHTED buildings in Cradley are a step closer to being replaced with a new development.
The Cradley Action Group met local politicians and developers to talk about the future of the Colley Gate site.
Cradley MP Margot James and Cradley councillor Tim Crumpton attended the meeting and is backing the redevelopment.
Chris Legiewicz, who leads the Cradley Action Group, said: "The meeting was positive, and a full update was given about the future development of the area.
"Dudley Council have already cleared the way for compulsory purchase powers to be used, meaning that the necessary land can now be acquired to develop the site."
Hortons’ Estate and Antringham Developments Ltd have been negotiating with Dudley Council for more than a year and the move will give the developer the ability to acquire the whole site.
Mrs Legiewicz said: “We now know that there is the possibility of a development package coming together for the site.
"While it is early days, we were encouraged by the ideas."
She added: "As with all large developments we cannot give the detail that everyone wants at this stage due to the legal processes involved.
"We are hopeful that further information and proposals will be available in July or August.
"If the development goes ahead, it will provide a much-needed boost to the area that I am sure will be welcomed by all.”
She added: "Whilst we have had many disappointments over the past number of years and this seems to have been dragging on 'orever - can I ask all the residents of Cradley to have patience and believe that eventually we shall have Cradley restored to its former glory.
"I shall continue to have regular meetings with the officials and regular updates."
