FESTIVE youngsters in Blackheath have been spreading Christmas joy with older people in sheltered housing.
Children and staff from Cornerstone Nursery hand-delivered decorations and cards they made to residents of St Paul’s Court, a retirement home run by Anchor for over 55s.
The youngsters have been busy decorating tea light holders, making Christmas cards and paper decorations ready to take to the residents, which is a short walk from the nursery.
Silvia Sermon, Cornerstone Nursery’s deputy manager, said: “We did the same last year and both the residents and our children really enjoyed our visit.
“At the nursery we think it's nice to share the joy of Christmas with people in our community and with St Paul's being so close to the nursery it seems fitting to do this again this year.”
Councillor Simon Hackett, Sandwell Council’s cabinet member for children's services, said: “I know the children at the nursery have worked really hard in making the cards and decorations – with a little help from staff, parents and carers.
“Although their efforts were hampered by the snow last week, I'm glad they've been able to deliver their handiwork to the residents in St Paul's Court.”
Cllr Ann Shackleton, cabinet member for social care, added: “It's very thoughtful of the nursery staff, children and parents to do something for older people at this time of year.
“I'm sure the residents in St Paul's Court really appreciate the thought and efforts that went in to making the decorations and enjoyed their visit from the children.”
