WARLEY Male Choir are hosting a special gala concert to celebrate their 75th anniversary in Halesowen this weekend.

The choir will be performing at Cornbow Hall on Saturday (May 19) where they will be joined by Birmingham Icknield Male Voice Choir (MVC) and Cradley Heath MVC.

Also accompanying the 35-strong group will be special guest Craig Yates from popular Welsh MVC ‘Only Men Aloud’.

Ron Sweetland, choir chairman, said: “At a time when a lot of male voice choirs are unfortunately having to close, being able to reach our 75th anniversary is quite an achievement.

“I have always enjoyed my time with the choir, we’ve sang at the symphony hall and gone on tours across the UK as well as France, Germany and Holland.

“I know there are local choirs who have been going longer than us, but we are very pleased to have made it this far.”

The choir is also searching for an accomplished pianist due to large changes within their music team.

Anyone interested in the role - with a negotiable fee offered to the most suitable applicants - will need to be able to accompany a choir of up to 35 voices and have a good knowledge of choral music.

To buy tickets for the 7pm concert, costing £10, or to confirm interest in the pianist role, call Ron on 0121 522 4113.
