MORE than 500 Star Wars fans attended a live build event at the Lego exhibition at Himley Hall this weekend.

Stormtroopers from the West Midlands Garrison greeted visitors who came to see exhibition creator Amor Lamine put together a Lego version of the UCS Y-Wing.

It took the Lower Gornal electrician two days to complete the model, which was donated by Lego and now has pride of place in the free exhibition, which runs until September 30.

The Mayor of Dudley, Alan Taylor, also dropped by on Saturday as the event was raising money for his three chosen charities - Headway Black Country, White House Cancer Support and The Hope Centre.

Visitors helped to raise £153 by taking part in a raffle and purchasing exclusive badges, which were commissioned to commemorate the event.

Steve Galloway, a journalist from the online magazine Jedi News, said: "It was a fantastic day and Jedi News are thankful that Amor asked us to help launch his event. We would like extend our thanks to everyone who attended."
