THE death of a man who was hit by a train at Sandwell and Dudley station on Saturday evening (July 28) is not being treated as suspicious.

British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed the man was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck by a train at the Oldbury station shortly after 7.40pm.

The man’s next of kin have been informed.

A BTP spokesman said: “Officers were called to Sandwell and Dudley station at 7.42pm on Saturday after reports of a person being struck by a train.

“Colleagues from the ambulance service also attended, however, a 64-year-old man from Birmingham, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been informed.

“This is incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”

Following the man’s death, no trains were running at the station in Bromford Road, with the platforms remaining closed throughout Saturday night and Sunday morning, before reopening at about 3.30pm yesterday.
