THREE families have celebrated success after winning the Halesowen in Bloom family treasure hunt.

The hunt, which lasted for two weeks, saw eight Halesowen town centre businesses put up a picture of a wild flower in their windows.

Families had to track down the business from a treasure map – this year those involved were Smith’s Electrical, Anytime Fitness, Coffee Calling, The Carpet Shop, Lloyds Pharmacy, Bowens, Nails 4 You and the Beacon Centre – and unscramble the wild flower’s name.

The winning families – the Abdul-Rahmans, the Coles and the Andersons – were invited to Halesowen Library where they were awarded their prizes of nature books and a family bag of chocolate biscuits by Halesowen Business Improvement District (BID) manager Rebecca Howard.

Councillor Hilary Bills, Halesowen in Bloom family treasure hunt organiser, said: “Many thanks to the local businesses who took part in this year’s family treasure hunt and to Halesowen Library who always host the event. And congratulations to the three winning families.”

Halesowen in Bloom were national finalists in Britain in Bloom for the first time ever this year, representing the Heart of England in the ‘Urban Community’ category.

The results for the regional Heart of England completion will be released on Thursday, September 20, before the national Britain in Bloom final results are announce on Friday, October 19.

Cllr Bills added: “When we took the national judges around the town centre they were impressed with the support local businesses give to In Bloom and how volunteers play a huge part in all we do.

“We have everything crossed.”
