KINKY Boots, the fabulous, feel-good musical, has strutted into Wolverhampton.
It tells the story of Charlie Price, a man who is struggling to live up to his father’s expectations and continue the family business.
The shoe factory’s future is hanging in the balance but Charlie soon gets help in the unlikely but spectacular form of Lola – a fabulous drag queen in need of some sturdy new stilettos.
I was so excited when I heard the show would have a run at Wolverhampton’s Grand Theatre as I had wanted to see it for years.
And it didn’t disappoint – it’s such a funny, sassy, heart-warming show and the cast really give it their all.
Lola was played fantastically by Kayi Ushe – and I couldn’t help but think he would make a brilliant Frank-N-Furter in Rocky Horror.
Kayi is usually the understudy but he absolutely owned that stage.
His comic timing was impeccable, his facial expressions oozed attitude and his voice was incredible.
Paula Lane, who most will know as Corrie’s Kylie Platt, was hilarious as Lauren – the factory worker who plants the seed for success in her boss’ head and falls head over heels for him in the process.
Joel Harper-Jackson, who plays Charlie, also gave a sterling performance.
He has a beautiful voice and put so much emotion into the show’s more touching moments.
It’s fair to say that Kinky Boots is the ultimate fun night out and I’d urge you all to experience the energy, joy and laughter of this dazzling show.
Kinky Boots runs at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre until Saturday, October 27.
