Book sale will aid Dinham Millennium Green Trust

For nearly 20 years, Paul Nicholls was chairman of Dinham Millennium Green Trust, and throughout that time he was aided by his deputy, David Edwards.

Sadly, Paul died in February, and David passed away last month.

Their contribution was immense, and a book has been published which records why, how and despite overwhelming odds, the Millennium Green was created and the Mill on the Green restored.

Compiled and researched by Rosemary Wood , "The Story of the Green - a dream becomes reality", costs £10, and all monies from its sale will be donated directly to Dinham Millennium Green Trust.

But before the story of the Millennium Green can be told, you must go back to the late 1950s, when a child drowned in the sluice gates of the old mill building on the banks of the river Teme at Dinham, and a cherry tree was planted.

Forty years later, battle lines were drawn up when the then South Shropshire District Council offered the site of the old swimming pool and changing rooms for sale. Ludlovians challenged the right of planners and developers to build six houses on the banks of the river; a public meeting was called, and money raised to buy and clear the site.

Every tale has a hero, and the vision, determination and leadership of one man, Paul Nicholls, was essential.

The old swimming pool was demolished, and the medieval corn mill which had housed the pool changing rooms was transformed.
