A SIX-year-old boy was threatened with a knife to his throat during a terrifying robbery in Oldbury.

Police have released more details of the robbery at a home on Titford Road, Oldbury, which saw a 71-year-old man stabbed and hit over the head with a hammer in his own home by a masked gang who broke in during broad daylight.

The victim, aged 71, was attacked with a knife and hammer after robbers forced their way into his home in Titford Road, Oldbury, just after 4pm on Sunday February 10.

He was hit over the head with a hammer, stabbed and slashed across his head and neck and also suffered a broken back.

The 71-year-old remains in hospital where his condition is said to be improving.

The robbers fled with jewellery, an iPhone and £700 cash in what police believe was a targeted attack.

Detectives have now released photos of jewellery that was stolen during the robbery in the hope of tracing those them and securing vital information on who was involved.

Two gold sovereign rings − one with a Mercedes three-pointed star logo − a large gold bracelet, gold earrings with a Chinese lantern design, a gold chain with a cross and a gold Rado watch were all taken in the terrifying attack.

Three men - aged 37, 40 and 42 - were arrested at an address in Cottage Walk, West Bromwich, at 9.20pm on Sunday night, just over five hours after the incident.

In the early hours of Monday morning, police raided an address on Hollywell Street in Bilston and arrested three men aged 35, 36 and 38, as well as a 40-year-old woman.

Three men aged 35, 36 and 38 − plus a 40-year-old woman − have all been bailed and will return for more questioning next month.

Three other men have been released under investigation as enquiries progress.

One of the men bailed, a 38-year-old from Dudley, has been charged with assaulting a West Midlands Police custody officer and damaging a police cell. He is due in court today.

Detective Inspector Jacqui Nicholson from force CID, said: “This is a shocking attack in a family home; it’s despicable that the offenders have stooped so low as to threaten a schoolboy with a knife.

“We’re appealing for information on who was involved; the offenders do not deserve protection and I would urge anyone with information to contact us in confidence. We don’t need callers’ names, we just want to know who’s committed this awful crime."

Officers have searched a property in Hollywell Street, Hurst Hill, as part of the investigation and recovered a dark blue Vauxhall Agila Expression which the offenders are understood to have used to get away.

Det Insp Nicholson, added: “We understand the victim was followed home from a shop in Langley High Street by offenders who saw he was carrying a large amount of cash.

“I’d also appeal for anyone who saw the offenders’ car in Titford Road or driving away from the location just after 4pm on Sunday to get in touch. They could have important information to help our enquiries."
