Police are appealing for information about the attack, which took place as the woman was walking over a bridge near to Wollescote Road, between 6.30pm and 7.20pm on Thursday March 7.

They have also appealed for people 'not to take matters into their own hands' after comments were posted online.

The 20-year-old was walking over a bridge near to Wollescote Road, when a man came up from behind her and grabbed her.

He then sexually assaulted her before knocking her to the ground.

The man then walked off along the footpath.

He was described by police as white, around 5ft 7ins, of muscular build with dirty blond stubble around his neck and wearing a dark grey hoody top.

Police Investigator Bob Brown from West Bromwich Public Protection Unit said: “We are seeking CCTV footage and any other evidence that will help us to identify the offender.

"We are appealing to anyone with any information which may assist our investigation to get in touch.

“I would also appeal to the local community not to take matters into their own hands as I am aware of some comments on a local Facebook page. There will be additional patrols in the area conducted by local officers.”
