A HALESOWEN man who punched, kicked and stamped on his former girlfriend as he demanded, "Tell me you love me" has been jailed for two years.

Bradley Robertson, aged 22, was the subject at the time of a restraining order forbidding him having any contact with his ex-partner when he forced his way into her Oldbury home.

The lovesick roofer who was upset after the end of their seven month relationship kept asking her to demonstrate

affection before grabbing her round the throat, said Edward Soulsby prosecuting.

He then threw her against a wall as he shouted "Why don't you want to be with me?" adding, "Why don't you love me?" Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.

The ex-partner and her friend then managed to bundle Robertson out of the property but he returned through the back door when he punched her again before stamping on her face.

Mr Soulsby said Robertson who had been given the restraining order for previous bad behaviour towards the woman then stepped back and he took a short run forwards before kicking her in the ribs.

After the angry assault Robertson who had sent a string of text messages to the woman in which he threatened to smash up her car stressed she was "meant to be with him" adding, "I love her."

Robertson, of Bloomfield Street North, admitted two charges of breaching the restraining order and also assault causing actual bodily harm.

In a victim impact statement his former girlfriend later told police that Robertson's actions meant she could not lead a normal life and she said she continued to fear for her safety.

Stephen Cadwaladr defending described Robertson as "immature" and said he had been in a very emotional state

when he went to her home.

He now accepted their short relationship was at an end and he said there would be no further contact in the future.

Judge James Burbidge QC said Robertson had an entirely inappropriate attitude towards women and it was fortunate

the injuries he caused his former partner were "modest."

The judge said women had to be protected by the courts and his former partner continued to feel she was in jeopardy because he had gone to her home convinced she still wanted to see him.
