A Dudley driver who hit two brothers over the head with a bottle after a parked car prevented him getting off a pub car park has been locked up for 45 weeks.

Recorder Alistair Smith told 22-year-old Ashley Saa - a man of previous good character - he had been the victim of some provocation but he had "completely over-reacted."

He told Saa of The Broadway: "You were inconvenienced but not to a great extent and an element of impatience provoked the two men into a certain amount of aggression."

Brothers Wade and Liam Overton were searching the parked car for a handbag belonging to one of their friends which was finally found in the boot.

The girl had returned to the Meadow Lark pub in Dibdale Road believing she had left the handbag on the premises and she stopped her car in a way that blocked the exit.

That meant Saa who had driven onto the car park to pick up friends could not get out and when he revved his engine and moved towards the parked car the brothers approached him in an aggressive manner.

Several passengers got out while Saa remained in his vehicle and pushing and shoving lead to Wade Overton being punched and his brother going to his assistance.

Saa got out of his car and he got into a struggle with Liam Overton who punched him twice. Saa was either handed or picked up a bottle and he used it to strike both brothers leaving them with head wounds that required hospital treatment.

Mr Michael Annng defending Saa, who admitted possessing an offensive weapon and two charges of wounding, told Wolverhampton Crown Court it was the brothers who were the first to act aggressively and it was Liam who punched Saa at least twice.

"The defendant was entitled to act in self defence but the use of the bottle was excessive," he added "This would not have happened if the Overton's had not started it."
