REDDITCH'S Trystan Finocchiaro got his 2019 campaign off to a flying start by securing two second place finishes out of two races at the first round of the British Junior Supersport championship at Silverstone.

Making his debut in the British Superbike paddock, Transmec KTM Junior Team rider Finocchiaro never ventured outside of the top three right from the first free practice.

Saturday's qualifying session saw 20 thrilling minutes of Trystan battling it out to secure a front row start. With two minutes of the session left Finocchiaro topped the time sheets for provisional pole, just to be pipped by championship rival Adon Davie in the closing stages of the session.

Starting from second on the grid Finocchiaro made a tremendous start to take the whole shot and lead the race into turn one of the first race of the weekend. The Anglo-Italian swapped positions a couple of times with the pole sitter and was planning to stay behind and attack on the last lap.

Unfortunately lapped traffic with only a few laps to go created a 1.7s gap to the race leader with not enough time for Finocchiaro to close it down, finishing the race in second place.

The grid of 40 lined up again on Sunday afternoon with the fastest laps of race one placing Trystan third on the grid. Another flying first lap put for the 20-year-old put him back in the lead of the race by the end of the first lap.

The first half of the race saw a superb eight-rider battle for the lead, with Finocchiaro and race one winner Adon Davie swapping the lead lap by lap.

Further into the race, race one's third place man Kade Verwey joined the battle, forming a leading group of three riders swapping and changing positions.

Davie led onto the final lap leading Finocchiaro and Verwey, until the two got tangled up heading onto the back straight letting the leader pull away.

Having dropped to 3rd place Finocchiaro quickly recovered with a last lap lunge into the final overtaking spot of the course and securing another second place finish.
