FIVE-WAY temporary traffic lights have caused chaos in Rowley Regis as electrical engineers carry out emergency repair work.

Work on a faulty cable on the bridge at the end of Garratts Lane has led to delays in journeys around the Powke Lane roundabout, near Rowley Regis Crematorium.

Frustrated motorists took to social media on Tuesday (May 14) to vent their annoyance over the work.

Karen Wiggin wrote: "Took 25 mins to get from top of Powke Lane to the bottom. Nightmare!

"Just took me 20 minutes to get round it from Gawne Lane. Nightmare," concurred Megan Russon.

Emma Jeavons added: "It's on my way to work and absolute madness - not all lights were working this morning."

The good news for motorists is that Western Power Distribution have promised the work will be finished by the end of Wednesday (May 15).

A WPD spokesperson said: "We have had to carry out emergency repair work to one of our high voltage cables.

"The repair work is finished and our contractors have back-filled the hole.

"They will complete the reinstatement work tomorrow (Wednesday) at which point the temporary lights will come down.

"We apologise to everybody for the inconvenience but the work was unavoidable because we had a fault which affected a few thousand people."
