CABARET style music sessions with three of Wales' top contemporary musicians are being held at Pontio.

Gareth Bonello, Georgia Ruth and Toby Hay bring their new musical collaboration to the Bangor-based arts and entertainment centre.

The relaxed music sessions are being held in the Theatr Bryn Terfel, on Friday, June 7.

The popular cabaret evenings sees the theatre transformed, with seating reconfigured into tables allowing audiences to enjoy drinks with friends whilst enjoying the best in live music.

Gareth Bonello, Georgia Ruth and Toby Hay are talented musicians in their own right, but this summer they will come together for a new musical collaboration drawing on both original and traditional material.

The trio will be performing new pieces that explore the ethereal bond between the landscape and people of Wales, in an evening of carefully crafted pieces.

Gareth Bonello said, “Georgia, Toby and myself have been talking about collaborating for a few years, so we’re really excited that it’s finally happening!

"We started off sharing songs connected to our home turf, or cynefin as it’s known in Welsh.

"From there we’ve been writing new songs and re-working old ones that still resonate with our experiences of Wales today.

"We’ve been combining Harp, Cello, Guitars, Vocals plus a few rarer instruments like the Duitara.

"I think it’s going to be a really special evening of acoustic music and we’re really looking forward to bringing this collaboration to Pontio for our very first performance.”

An accomplished live performer, Gareth Bonello is a Cardiff-based songwriter performing under the stage name The Gentle Good whose album Ruins/Adfeilion won the Welsh Music Prize in 2017.

He writes in both Welsh and English and is drawn to the innate musicality of both tongues.

A skilled harpist and pianist, Georgia Ruth is a musician from Aberystwyth whose debut album Week of Pines was nominated for two BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and won the Welsh Music Prize in 2013.

Her second album Fossil Scale was released in 2016 and was praised by The Independent for its ‘wealth of sonic detail’.

Toby Hay is a guitarist and composer from near Rhayader who writes beautifully evocative guitar instrumentals.

He has toured the UK and Ireland extensively and has released two full length solo albums, both of which have been nominated for the Welsh Music Prize.
