PERSHORE Town’s appeal to be moved to the Hellenic League will be heard on Wednesday – and the club is “extremely confident” over the outcome.

Town has asked the Football Association (FA) for a lateral transfer from the West Midlands (Regional) League (WMRL) Premier Division to Hellenic Division One West in a bid to cut journey times.

Clubs seeking to switch leagues at Pershore’s level – the sixth tier of non-league football – must ask the national association by March 31 prior to the closed season but chiefs are still scratching their heads to solve a long-standing problem in the Hellenic.

The hearing will be heard at 2pm at Wembley with posts on the club’s Twitter feed bullish over the prospect of switching.

“We are extremely confident of the outcome,” it read.

“Our arguments are valid and make common sense. We can only see one decision and that’s in favour of (Pershore Town).”

It follows on from Hellenic League chief executive Brian King issuing an update on Wednesday.

“The FA is hearing appeals against original allocations for at least the next week. These will undoubtedly mean more change.

“The element of the FA National League System that administers steps five and six is continuing to work hard to bring the original allocation of 29 clubs at Division One level, a split of 15 in the East and 14 in the West, closer towards 16 and 16.

“In reality these guys are working extremely hard as they are also attending appeals.”

Those efforts have seen third-placed Stonehouse Town promoted from the Gloucestershire County League into Division One West, directly replacing Kidlington Development who have moved into Division One East.

It still leaves Division One West with just 14 clubs for a league that has always struggled for numbers.

Malvern Town, Hereford Lads Club, Wellington and Pegasus Juniors have all been moved south from the WMRL this summer, joining a decimated division featuring two clubs that took just three points each last season – Tytherington Rocks and New College Swindon.

Moving comes with the bonus of having less competition for the four promotion places on offer from each of the divisions at step six as part of the next phase of the FA’s reshuffle.

Speaking last month, Pershore chairman Paul Loader said: “It was always the plan to push this season having finished the last with a bit of stability. At the time we decided that we did not know about the extra places.

“We are looking forward to the new season. Hopefully we will be successful with the appeal but if not, we will carry on in the West Midlands (Regional) League and do our best in that."
