STAGE REVIEW: The Barricade Boys - at the Forum Theatre, Malvern, on Saturday, June 16, 2019.

THIS proved to be a memorable musical night when you could pull down the barricades, relax and enjoy a wide-ranging repertoire of great songs.

Helping the group's founders Scott Garnham and Simon Schofield in this new UK tour were Sam Edwards (Fiyero in the UK and Ireland tour of Wicked) and Chris Cowley (Enjolras in Les Misérables) and together they fully merited their standing ovation from an appreciative audience.

Each of them have filled roles in Les Miserables and their cover-offerings covered hits spanning the years and a variety of music genre, from the hugely entertaining and expected songs of Les Mis to hit songs of past decades such as blues, rock and roll and more, and nicely mixed in with a blend of humour and audience involvement.

Great voices made the most of power ballads and operatic arias with hits from The Jersey Boys, Bobby Darin, and many more, as well as their Les Mis numbers such as the enthralling temptations of Empty Chairs and Empty Tables, Bring Him Home and the anthemic Do You Hear the People Sing?
