MENTAL health charity Dudley Mind has teamed up with intu Merry to champion mental wellbeing for shoppers.

Giant mirrors were installed in the centre last weekend by Dudley Mind and Free Radio, where shoppers were encouraged to write messages of positivity on the glass to spread smiles around the centre.

The most inspirational quotes will then be printed permanently around the shopping centre.

The 'More Than A Mirror' event was launched by Free Radio presenter and X Factor star Amelia Lily and marks the start of the centre’s official partnership with Dudley Mind, an organisation that aims to improve the lives and wellbeing of people in the Dudley borough living with mental health conditions.

Naomi Campbell, community development manager at intu Merry Hill, said: “With estimates showing that 1 in 6 people in the past week experienced a common mental health issue, there is a clear need for local support for these individuals.

“We’re really looking forward to unveiling our mirrors at the centre for Wellbeing Week and officially announcing our charity partnership with Dudley Mind. We want the mirrors to create a visual conversation around mental health and hope that by encouraging shoppers to write positive messages, we can help tackle the stigma around the topic.”

Sandra Vaughan, Chief Executive at Dudley Mind, said: “It’s great to officially announce our charity partnership with intu Merry Hill and the mirror installation is a fantastic way to engage shoppers and introduce them to the crucial work we do in and around Dudley.

“The support we provide day in, day out helps to create practical ways in which people living with mental health conditions can increase their ability to tackle life’s challenges. We are looking forward to working with the centre on other fundraising activities throughout this year.”
