BRIERLEY Hill Musical Theatre Company's youth section is staging iconic 80s jukebox musical Rock of Ages.

The show opens today (Thursday July 18) and runs until Saturday (July 20) at Crestwood Theatre, Crestwood School, Kingswinford.

The five-time Tony Award Nominated musical, written by Chris D’Arienzo, tells the story of a small-town girl, a city boy, and a rock ‘n’ roll romance on Sunset Strip.

But when the bar where rock reigns supreme is set to be demolished - it’s up to the wannabe rockers and their friends to save the day.

Chris Psaras, co-director, said “Earlier this year the cast were fortunate enough to meet the UK touring cast of Rock of Ages at the Wolverhampton Grand, which was a real highlight for our young performers.

"Our group aims to give local young performers an opportunity to develop skills within theatre, dance and singing as well as the experience of performing in front of the public.

"Previous members of our youth group have gone on to work professionally in the West End, on cruise ships and as holiday park entertainers and most recently - a children’s TV presenter for the BBC."

The show, features 80s rock anthems and power ballads including Every Rose Has Its Thorn, I Wanna Know What Love Is, Here I Go Again and Don't Stop Believin'.
