DUDLEY is set to get a brand new leisure centre, as part of a £31 million refurbishment of the borough's leisure centres.

Plans for a new state of the art centre, to be opened on Flood Street in 2021, have been unveiled by council bosses today (August 30).

It is planned the new centre will include a 25 metre swimming pool, a state of the art gym, a five court sports hall, activity studios and an onsite café.

The Crystal Leisure Centre in Stourbridge and Halesowen Leisure Centre will also receive a refurbishment, as part of the council's £31 million leisure programme.

Council chiefs insist 'prudential borrowing' will be used to fund the programme and that an application for planning permission will be made later this year.

Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council, said: “We are very excited to showcase latest designs for our brand new Dudley Leisure Centre.

“With the 2022 Commonwealth games coming to the region and the Metro plans set to include a nearby stop, this really is the perfect time for us to get started on this programme.

“This investment will ensure good quality, modern, council run leisure facilities continue to be available to people throughout the borough.”

The existing Dudley Leisure Centre on Wellington Road will remain open throughout the development of the new site.

Council chiefs have yet to consider how the Wellington Road centre will be redeveloped.

The proposals are available for the public to look at from August 30 until September 11 at the existing Dudley Leisure Centre and will be discussed by the Council Cabinet on September 11.
